So my boss sent me home from work early today because I'm an emotional disaster, and I strongly suspect he was afraid I would scare off the customers. Guess I can't really blame him. I got my 9th rejection for a promotion from Enterprise today. You read that right- I've interviewed NINE TIMES to be promoted and each and every time I've heard "Well, it was a
real close one but we decided to go with someone else this time. Don't worry, you had a
great interview- you'll get the next one." Yeah, fantastic. I just LOVE coming in second place nine times in a row. Okay, that's an exaggeration- I've only been the runner up 4 times. Not to be a real downer, but it kind of gets tough on a person. But it's not just the number of times I've been turned down- I didn't even really want 8 of the jobs. I applied because that's what you do when you "take charge of your own career" at enterprise. The only position I really, really wanted was this last one. And I know out of all the applicants, I'm the one who wanted it the most. I researched the job, put together a great resume and cover letter, bought a new suit for the interview, and really gave it my all. And, like every other time, I got the call: "You had a
great interview. It was just down to you and one other guy. We picked him because he had just a little more experience, but really that was the deciding factor- it was really close!" ...yes, because coming in second place feels
soo sooooo good.

Ashton, I know how lame it is to be turned down for something you really wanted. I'm sorry, I feel your pain. :( But you WILL get it and you will probably get one that you like even better than this last one!
