So, I know this is the first time I've been pregnant. And I know I'm not even all the way through it. And I know that I'm especially not an expert on good eating and exercise. However, I have made two finds that I want to recommend to anyone who is pregnant or will be pregnant anytime soon...
I had the hardest time finding a good prenatal workout DVD-- we don't have a gym membership and it's been winter most of the time I've been pregnant, nixing outdoor activity. Most of the DVDs I saw seemed to be really watered down versions of dance aerobics. I even threw away a Denise Austin one that I bought because it was so horrible that I couldn't even sell it to someone-- I could only destroy it and hope I saved at least one more person out there making the mistake of wasting their money on it. BUT, I have found these two and they've been great-- especially the further along that I've gotten. They might be a little too easy for first trimester, but for second and third I think they really hit the nail on the head. So hopefully this saves some of you some time and angst if you're looking for a prenatal workout:
This one is my very favorite-- Summer Sanders is adorable and does a great job in this DVD. She's 7 months pregnant during the whole thing. Her sister-in-law, Kerri, is her personal trainer and Kerri's the one who designed the workout, and she really coaches you through it (she's also had 2 kids). Anyway, as long as I added some free weights to the warm up, I really felt like it was a decent workout.
I really didn't love this one at first, but I've gained more appreciation for the workouts the bigger I've gotten. It gets tougher and tougher to do some of her routines as my belly keeps growing. So I'd say get this DVD, but maybe hold off on it until the middle of your second trimester. But it's really helped with lots of aches and pains (even sciatica). This lady is 36 weeks pregnant!
